Guide on New Vault Rules for Decentralized Loans

Image
After the Fort Canning Epilogue update, 2 new rules will apply to loans: DUSD loans backed by any amount of DUSD collateral will be subjected to 50% DFI requirements in the vault The collateralization factor of DUSD will be adjusted from 100% to 120% Let’s deep dive into the mechanisms of these rules, and what it means for the DeFiChain community. 50% DFI Requirements for DUSD Loans Containing DUSD Collateral DUSD as collateral was initially proposed as part of DFIP-2112-A to allow for increased DUSD utility and shorting of stocks without exposure to volatility of cryptocurrency. This was a great initiative initially when there was no incentive to be minting DUSD by backing DUSD. This however changed once the DUSD loan incentive was introduced. To limit circular DUSD loans, and concurrently shore up demand for DFI, all DUSD loans that are backed by any amount of DUSD collateral will be required to maintain at least 50% of their collateral in the form of DFI. Here are some scenarios to ...

How Stock Splits Affect DeFiChain Users

Image
LAST UPDATED: 18 August 2022 Various companies have announced stock splits over the past year. Companies split their stocks for multiple reasons such as making their stock prices look more attractive to investors. Although the number of shares outstanding increases by a specific multiple, the total dollar value of all shares outstanding remains the same because a split does not fundamentally change the company's value. Changes like these have to be properly implemented on DeFiChain as well. As a result we came up with a process that applies to all future stock splits. How do stock splits affect dTokens on DeFiChain? Since the minting of dTokens are dependent on the price oracles of the underlying, a stock split without adjusting the respective dToken would cause severe issues, resulting in a wrong price of previously minted dTokens. Hence, a split is inevitable to keep the respective dToken’s price in line with its underlying. A stock split follows a standardized procedure on DeFi...

The DEX stabilization fee’s effects on DUSD

Image
Throughout the last couple of weeks, nearly all stablecoins encountered some turbulent times. Some had to do with bad tokenomics, others were due to FUD. Hence, this blog post aims to explain how the recently implemented DeFiChain Improvement Proposals (DFIPs) will stabilize the price of DUSD and what users should do next. Status quo and what has happened? Let’s quickly look a few months back, when the DUSD price oscillated around US$1.20 and stayed there for quite some time before successful implementations were introduced that brought the price down to US$1. Now, we have the exact opposite scenario: Instead of +20%, DUSD is trading around US$0.80 prices for the last few days. As a result, the community put their heads together and came up with some well-thought-out DFIPs that have been voted on last week by the masternodes and have been implemented today to bring the DUSD price back to 1 USD. In this blog post, you can find a summary of these proposals; today’s blog post will take a ...

How Will The AMZN Stock Split Affect DeFiChain Users

Image
Early in March, AMZN announced a 20-for-1 stock split. Though it will ultimately take place on 3 June 2022, it has already sent the stock on a rally not seen in recent months. In theory this should not happen, because a split doesn’t affect a company’s business fundamentals. Yet such splits  often cause day traders to pile in, fueling rallies like these. However, there is no change in the fundamentals that would justify such an increase, rather, the only thing that will happen is that each shareholder of AMZN in the traditional stock market will receive 20 shares for every 1 share of AMZN they currently own. The distribution from the stock split will take place at the close of business on Friday, 3 June 2022, and trading will begin on the split-adjusted basis on Monday, 6 June 2022, at 9.30 am ET (1.30 pm UTC). How does this affect dAMZN on DeFiChain? Since the minting of dAMZN is dependent on the price oracles of AMZN, a split without an adjustment on DeFiChain’s side would cause ...
